TIPS, TRICKS AND IDEAS FOR USING BEETROOT POWDER

·      Use 1-2 teaspoons of the powder in salad dressings and sauces. Blend into vinaigrettes for a unique twist.

·      Can be used as an alternative food colouring in cakes, cupcakes, icing and any sweet treats/ desserts to make them a bright red velvet colour or a pink colour (add gradually until you reach the desired colour). If you aim for a specific colour in your dish, gradually add beetroot powder until you achieve the desired hue. It’s easier to add more than to reduce the intensity.  Please note, the brightness is less prominent once cooked).If you use a small amount it won’t taste like beetroot. Experiment by adding a small amount to your recipe and gradually add more if desired.

·      Stir into kefir, smoothies, cocktails, salads, porridges, yoghurt and cereals. Works well with so many foods.

RED VELVET LATTE

·      Add 1 teaspoon (approximately 2-3g) of My Natural Beauty’s Beetroot powder to your cup

·      Add 15gms of Chocolate Powder (for a caffeine free drink) or a mix of chocolate powder and instant coffee powder for a mocha based drink

·      Steam milk of your choice

·      Gradually add ½ a cup of your steamed milk to your cup and stir well with the powders.

·      Once dissolved, top up the cup with the remaining steamed milk

PINK LATTE

As above, however you can leave out the chocolate powder and instead add honey, maple syrup or coconut sugar, a touch of vanilla and spices such as cinnamon, nutmeg and ginger. Add desired amount gradually to suit your taste. You can blend in a blender for an extra frothy latte. Alternatively, you can use cold milk and blend with ice for a delicious Barbie Pink Iced Latte.

CHOCOLATE CHERRY SMOOTHIE (OR SMOOTHIE BOWL)

Beetroot powder pairs wonderfully with chocolate and cherries. Make a smoothie using your desired milk, frozen or fresh cherries, cocoa powder for a milk chocolate style smoothie or cacao powder for a darker chocolate style, banana (frozen or fresh) and beetroot powder. Optional ingredients include protein powder (if chocolate flavoured you can leave out the cocoa or cacao powder), dates (softened in warm water prior to blending) for a caramel richness, maple syrup and cinnamon.

For a smoothie bowl you just make it thicker (less milk does the trick. Just enough to blend the ingredients and keep it as thick as possible) and top with any of the following: chocolate shavings, fresh berries, cherries, nuts, chia seeds, coconut and a drizzle of honey or peanut butter.

PINK HUMMUS

Try adding a small amount of beetroot powder to Hummus. Mix well. Garnish with virgin olive oil and pine nuts and serve with pita chips. Delicious.

DIY Face Masks using Beetroot Powder

Here are some easy to make beetroot face masks that you can try at home. Always patch test on a small area and wait for 24hrs to ensure no reactions occur prior to full application.

Make beetroot face masks at home by combining beetroot powder with any of the following ingredients. Apply on the skin and wash it off after 20 minutes.

Mix beetroot powder to make a smooth yet thick spreadable paste. Always use a liquid with the powders/thicker ingredients:

Liquids- (always use at least one to form a thick yet smooth spreadable paste. Water can be added to achieve the desired consistency)
